Composites Technology Training

Composites Technology Training

Innovative Field of Composites

Technical Trainings Composites technicians fabricate and assemble lightweight, resilient parts for a variety of applications using epoxy resins, fiberglass, carbon and Kevlar fabrics, structural adhesives and coatings. The innovative field of composites includes the aerospace, automotive and construction industries, all of which require specialized technical training.

Utah has one of the highest concentrations of advanced composite companies in the world and the composites industry in our state will continue to grow. At present, approximately 123 Utah companies are active in the industry accounting for at least 10,000 jobs. According to the Utah Economic Development Corporation, 6,600 new jobs will be available in the industry by 2015. One of the major concerns facing this industry in Utah and elsewhere is the shortage of talented technicians necessary to supply the industry. Corporate Solutions is addressing this concern through its certified Short Term Intensive Training programs and two-year degree programs in Composites Training.

Program Benefits

Currently, there are three levels to this Certificate program:

  • Introduction to Composites

This level 1 course teaches a basic understanding about materials for composites production, such as the components and structures used in aerospace, boating, automotive, building tradeswind turbines and recreational vehicles. Students will learn how composite materials are designed, processed and manufactured. The course includes building composite parts in a hands-on lab.

40 hours. 2 weeks (M-Th)

Cost: $400 ($200 for qualified individuals)

  • Advanced Composites Level Two

This level 2 course focuses on the processing of materials used in the composites industry. The course teaches skills in processing and handling using prepreg materials, mold building, vacuum bagging and core materials. Students review and build samples and perform testing on composite parts to understand the properties of different materials.

80 hours. 4 weeks (M-Th)

Cost: $800 ($400 for qualified individuals)

  • Advanced Composites Level Three

This level 3 course provides students with experience in the set-up, programming, and operation of the following automated equipment used in the advanced composites industry: autoclave, filament winding machine, pattern cutting machine, automated fiber braiding machine and more. Students will learn to understand engineering drawings, product data sheets and material safety data sheets. The course includes a capstone project utilizing skills developed in course levels 1, 2, and 3.

80 hours. 4 weeks (M-Th)

Cost: $800 ($400 for qualified individuals) At the conclusion of each course level, the student is awarded with a Certificate of Completion.

Financial assistance is available for qualified individuals.
