CESO-0100 Exploring Sonography
All applicants applying to the 2018 DMS Program are required to register for CESO-0100 Exploring Sonography online course. Only those students who have completed the CESO-0100 course will receive an application for the fall 2018 cohort.
To register for this course, you must contact the Registration office at 801-957-5200. This online, self-paced course takes approximately 5 hours to complete. Students may register up to the last week of each semester the course is offered.
CESO-0100 Exploring Sonography course will provide an overview of the medical sonography field as well as the Salt Lake Community College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Topics include preparing for a career in sonography, program overview, and perspectives from both students and those employed in the field. This course is part of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography application process.
Students applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program must complete one of the admission pathways listed below before applying to the program:
|Pathway 1||Complete a four-year bachelor's degree in any major. All prerequisite requirements are waived for students applying with a four-year bachelor's degree.|
|Pathway 2||Complete a two-year associate's degree in a patient care field.|
|Pathway 3||Complete the following pre-requisites with a "B-" or better. Prerequisites must be completed by the end of the spring 2018 term in order to be considered for the 2018 DMS program.
BIOL 1610/1615 College Biology is a prerequisite for the Anatomy and Physiology courses which are required prerequisites. In addition, CHEM 1110/1115 or CHEM 1210/1215 is a prerequisite to register for BIOL 2420/2425.
Please note, the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer's (ARDMS) requires those students not possessing a bachelors degree (pathway 1) or a two-year degree in a patient care related field (pathway 2) to complete an additional 12 months of full time clinical ultrasound experience after completion of the DMS program. Work experience and clinical experience cannot overlap. Unpaid, volunteer, or barter experience will not be accepted. Students are responsible for locating their own clinical site to complete this requirement.
